It´s easy for East Coast pundits to scoff at the barbarians. Throw in with commoners who drop their Gs, and it´s hard to feel proud of your own intellectual heft. Conservatism had its run with people who could turn a phrase and score debate points, but couldn´t get a damn thing done when handed the levers of power.
Some grain of truth, but, far as I know, W is not from the East Coast. Who is this referring to?
The Bush family is, as a whole, far more East Coast than Texan. While this Bush is more Texan than most Bushes, he still spent the majority of his life, until his 30s, following Papa's path through Connecticut, Maine, Yale and Harvard. However, this is probably referring to many more people than Bush, from Baker to Zakaria.
Blah, he's Princeton through and through. Heck, John Wheeler is more Texan than that critter.....except for that Saudi oil money. No doubt ol' James done some mighty fine earnin' when it comes to Petrodollars. A Yellow Rose By Any Other Name is he.

And this is ... a bad thing ? I was always under the impression that the problem was he didn't absorb much from his experience there,

Baker is a real Texan, though a real douchebag.

It's a bad thing. You were under the wrong impression: per-as-shocking-usual.
