Herr Rott am Steuer

“I think it’s a real advantage that he’s German,” said Bianca Florea, 18, a student, as she passed through the main town square in Sibiu on Friday. “Well, not exactly German, but Saxon.” Asked why, Ms. Florea responded, “We Romanians are a bit lazy, that’s my opinion.”

And, by the way, as you guys surely know, it was a guy from Sibiu who invented the rocket, way back when: In 1922, Oberth's proposed doctoral dissertation on rocket science was rejected as "utopian". He next had his 92-page work published privately in June 1923 as the somewhat controversial book, Die Rakete zu den Planetenräumen.

Are you saying that Oberth would be a good mayor? Jeez, you've got history all wrong.

Look, if Goddard needed an assistant, then Oberth would have done even more for mankind that he did by taking that job.

Forget being mayor and teaching Romanians how to make wienerschnitzel.

They make better wienerschnitzels there than in Wien.

As for Goddard---great man, but he got into the Racketen business in 1926, some 4 years after Oberth wrote his thesis on the subject. Not as much ahead of the field as Coanda, but still.
