Kristol thinking plenty strategically

Yep, saw that. But still, it sounds like sour grapes to me. I'm more with Steyn on this one. The Blue Dog Maginot line has been breached (duhh, in the end, it's gonna be straight party line vote). Once socialism is put in place, who's gonna dislodge it? Twenty years ago to the day, there was an America to stand firm till the Wall came down. No mas. Let's have some ouzo.

Where is the Principles of Amerisoc label?

There have been two previous "great" lurches to socialist rule in this nation: the New Deal and The Great Society. Both were awful and costly failures, as regards their originally stated "beneficial" social goals, but massive successes in changing the relationship of citizen to State.
Gotta give it to the Left; while it is all Malice Aforethought, the Republicans [and other erstwhile opposing elements in our political class] can't decide if they most wish to emulate Schleicher or Kerensky.

Kerensky is da man.

Going back to Kristol, here is a better commentary, one that cuts to the chase. It's not just a huge tax increase, and a huge lurch towards state control of the economy (duh). But also, it's gonna be health care of a much lower quality (think England, or hopefully, Canada, if we're lucky). As the CBO saus:

Adjusting for inflation, Medicare spending per beneficiary under the legislation would increase at an average annual rate of less than 2 percent during the next two decades--about half of the roughly 4 percent annual growth rate of the past two decades. It is unclear whether such a reduction in the growth rate could be achieved, and if so, whether it would be accomplished through greater efficiencies in the delivery of health care or would reduce access to care or diminish the quality of care.

I put my money on those death panels. Or, at the very least, two-to-three year waits for hip replacements, or pacemakers. Of much poorer quality.

Death solves all problems, and now the Government is the Problem Solver.
I'd rather disintegrate into nothingness on Palau than in some stinking state-run roachtrap. Just sayin'.

By the way, here's a little technical point. Part of the deal worked out by Reid and Nelson is that Nebraska gets special treatment -- a $100 million decrease in the amount of money they'd have to pour into this rathole. But the other 49 states (well, perhaps 48 -- Landrieu worked out some kind of similar deal for Louisiana) gotta plonk down the full bill to cover the Medicare/Medicaid hole the Pelosi/Reid bill opens.

Clear so far? Well, then, how about the equal protection clause of the Constitution (you know, the 14th Amendment)? And, aren't all the States equal under the Constitution? Am I missing something?

Mac comes up with a good one-liner: Only Bernie Madoff would approve of this kind of budgeting,
