That was not the point of the NRO article, if you bothered to read it. Rather, the point was (1) the Pentagon opened the competition, the Euros won, fair and square, and now we're changing the rules, ex post facto (that sounds like chickenshit to me), and (2) our military-industrial complex has been dramatically shrinking (we can't even produce cars that sell, for God's sake!), from 50+ major contractors down to only 6; we need the Euros to balance things out in the Coanda department. Too complicated a point, Herr Rot?

Great link on the first comment, Herr Html.

Jeez! Computers are so picky.

OK, but that belongs to another post. We're talking here about jets, tankers, fryin' chickens in the barnyard--not socialized medicine. Got it?

OK, while on the train home, I found some more ammo in my belt.
You may recall that Sarko is selling goodies to Putin's navy, right?

Wanna bet that EADS has something to do with that?

I am still firmly on the fuck 'em side here, Tecs. Since that skinny hubris factory "liberated Paris," those guys ain't worth shit for anything but cooking.

They can't be trusted for anything and if it means rewriting the code so that Boeing wins the contract instead of Putin's shipyard, then so be it.

Northrop Grumman deserves the slap also for having anything to do with them.

OK, that's more of an argument than before. I will not defend Sarko's crooked deals with Putin. Still, why shoot ourselves in the foot, and mess up this tanker order? Can anything be done right anymore?

You don't like the idea that it looks like France is getting bilked? I think that looks great because they deserve it.

Remember Villepin? Let his pompadour be mussed then.

...from 50+ major contractors a contradiction in 9 characters. I'll try to beat that but I have my doubts as to my ability.

The article says "50 prime contractors". Prime, Major: Pinsk, Minsk. Define major for me, willya?

EADS (or Airbus): it's not just France, but pretty much all of Euroland. Why spit on the hand that feeds you, Herr Rotter? (An old Romanian proverb says you shouldn't.)
