Coanda was in NYC in 1965, to receive the Harry Diamond Laboratories Award. He must have gone through Queens on his way from La Guardia or JFK. And who knows what he came up with during that time.
I used to eat pizzas at V & T, on Amsterdam Avenue. They were quite good. And I still remember buying once a slice for only 25 cents! But I would always go Dutch.
Actually, I bought that slice for a quarter a couple of blocks away -- on B'way, around 109th. I think at V&T you could only order a whole pizza: with toppings and stuff, plus tax and tip, I think that came out to about 50 cents per slice, which seemed kind of expensive (but still worth it) at the time. Another excellent deal were the sandwiches at the deli on B'way: for about $1.50 I'd get an enormous pastrami sub with all sorts of cheese and stuff.

Of course, Tecs thinks that Coanda ended slavery in Queens and vice versa.

During that time he came up with the notion of Dutch Treat [after those with him suggested the guy with the new Award spring for lunch].
Coanda was tight with his money, yes. You think he was Dutch?
Dutch he was, for the purposes of a Broolyn political figure lamenting the nasty practices of those New Amsterdam slaveholders in the year 1898.

On Amsterdam Avenue, you could go no other way...
...now, how do we go back in time to the days of good pizza for a quarter a slice?

Probably a thermojet of his non-kosher lunch.
