
This was venus' transit of the sun a couple years back shot through a good-sized refractor with a piece of silvered mylar over the objective. It was an amazing morning in that there was just enough cloud cover early in the transit that one could look directly at the sun and see it. Later the clouds cleared and my welding glass came in handy. Of course the 'scope made the best images. You can see sunspots in this image, e.g.
