Yes, I know holding a bottle rocket in one's hand is dangerous enough. You can't pinch your fingers too hard around the stem of the rocket or it'll just burn the shit out of your hand. If you don't hold it hard enough, it'll naturally drop from your hand and shoot in some direction, most-likely into tall, dry prairie grass. It sounds like this fellah had a magnum sky rocket, much more powerful than traditional bottle rockets.
