World War II citizen-soldier temperment is something completely different from the Vietnam variety. You'll hear WWII veteran "Bud" Barth refer to his draft announcement as "Getting the call from Uncle Sam," and willingly going as a front line medic in the European Theatre vs. a great Idealist from the 60s as burning their draft card and attending that Jane Fonda rally. The Paradox: the generation that went so willingly are most of the parents of the generation that turned their backs on Citizen-Soldiering for that Great Pacifist Utopia (fucking gag).
