Mac the money guy

"I know how to do that, my friends," McCain said. "And it's my proposal, it's not Sen. Obama's proposal, it's not President Bush's proposal." The problem, of course, is that it is President Bush's proposal. At least, it's Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson's proposal. It's the heart of the $700 billion plan. After McCain suspended his campaign two weeks ago and rushed back to Washington to knock some heads together to get a rescue plan approved, he sheepishly admitted that he hadn't actually read the three-page Paulson plan all the way through. And even though he voted for it, it sounds like he still hasn't read it.

I'm not sure why Mac ran for Prez this time around. His heart sure ain't in it. Almost like a pro forma, "it's what you do", run. A lot like Dole in '96.
Palin is the only one on that team who actually is trying to win.
What, did he think he could be handed the damn thing out of Senatorial Collegiality?? Been in Congress too damn long.

Glad you came to this realization, AA -- though of course I'd be much happier if I'd been proven wrong, and had to eat a ton of crow. I've been saying this since last Winter -- Mac is simply Dole 96 redux. History keeps repeating itself, second time like a farce.

Now, I agree -- the situation for the Republicans in this election year is the worst since 1974 -- perhaps even 1932. So no matter who they put up, it's a very, very long shot. And Mitt would have been probably crushed by now, tar and feathered by his associations with the dastardly crooks on Wall Street (which is a much fairer attack than the one he had to endure on his religion, but let it slide.) But watching the spectacle is simply embarrassing to me, personally.

Well, I had this "realization" AI before the primaries ran. Which is why I kept saying that it was a shame that he hadn't done it in 2000-- when I think he did have the vigor and drive to campaign and be president.
The problem is that there was absolutely no one running among the Republicans who showed any real sense how to campaign effectively and who was able to articulate a clear, consistent, and persuasive platform that could capture the imagination of the voters.
And, as it turns out, it would have been all so easy. All that would have to be done is pose like Obamacles and do the WC Field con on the voters. ["It's Great, it's Grand, it Changes, it Hopes. Pay up now and let President Obamacles show you what's behind the Tent!"]

It's embarassing to the nation, but not to me personally. And I'm not sure why it would be embarassing to you, AI.
It is sad, true,it is ominous for what will happen to this nation under Obamacles will be a mortal lesson. But the only ones who will have to confront their embarassment will be those who got suckered by this narcisstic thug. [Those who aided and abetted him won't be embarassed. They want the destruction to come, and will revel in it].
