What part of nyet don't you understand, Obama?
The selling point that might have appealed to moderates (like Kaus, e.g.) was that electing Obama would make the US more popular abroad than "re"electing McCain. But it was all wrong. For all the good will that could have come from a muslim country that was never particularly antagonistic, money talks and bullshit walks. Russia provided the money to Kyrgyzstan while Obama offered them the same as to us, bullshit.

Power has driven him mad.
The base is used to refuel Afghan-bound planes, and is the first point of stop for the majority of coalition troops on their way in and out of Afghanistan. The closure announcement came after Russia promised Kyrgyzstan $2bn (£1.4bn) in aid.
Holy cow! Wasn't victory in Afghanistan one of the centerpieces of Obama's campaign? He kept railing about Iraq being a "distraction" (yeah, sure), from the real challenge, in Afghanistan. Now the Khyber pass is increasingly under challenge, Pakistan is slipping away, and Kyrghyzstan has been suborned by the Rooskies. How we gonna resupply our troops? Via Iran? Don't worry, be happy.
Great idea, Tecs! Via Iran. They're our buddies now that Ahmadinejad is Chief Justice. USAahu akbar!
