Nah. As soon as you had Republicans making their individual pacts with the Socialists they would have been coopted and pimped and so entangled with the AmeriSoc thugs that the "compromise" would, at best, have seen a monstrosity only superficially different from this one. And whatever these touches, the Hard Fact then made real would have been a product not only of the Socialists but also of the putative non-Socialists, and it would have been a much harder slog in the days and years ahead to clarify who is behind this move to Socialism, what their motives are, and why they need to be stopped. It is going to be a very hard slog of it anyway, for no other reason that many of the Mensheviks will ease the pressure on their heads by discovering a newfound appreciation for things Bolshevik [and those who believe in a Free Republic will be isolated, then eliminated as much as possible from significant public life]. But the slog would be impossible if those willing to engage cannot tell where there is a standard they may rally behind. Oh, and those few differences that might have been, with the Hard Fact "shining radiantly" into that darkening future, and the power of the State now brought high above us all? A few months later, with a party line vote here and a Presidential Diktat there, all that make-up would have washed away.

Der Rotter is a McCainiac at heart: always looking for a way to cut a deal "across the aisle". Funny thing is, even McCain realizes now (well, I hope he does--one is never quite sure with such a shifty guy) what a taco sheit this "Health Care" bill is.
Yes indeed. Marty is a Mr Rot kind of guy: He received his M.A. and Ph.D. from Harvard University, going on to lecture in social studies. As for Chait, he's a hard Left BDS guy. I stopped reading what he says a long time ago. Why should I waste my time with such tripe?
Marty Peretz, at the same site, has been making more sense than certain members of this blog.
Well, then, Wuzzy; time for you to not be so Fuzzy.
