There was an opportunity here for the new (and presumably improved) iraq to show that it abided by some international standard of justice. But with the meddling of the executive with the proceedings, the effort at expediting the process, and the countless irregularities that would have thrown this trial out of any court in the civilized world, what we are witnessing here is a no more than desire for quick revenge and scoring of political points trumping due process.
Yet another example of how the promotion of democracy in iraq is no more than a slogan.
Hanging Saddam after having your family killed by him because they didn't think the right way — according to Pepe — isn't justice, but rather, "revenge"?
Pepe, I just received a text message from a friend of mine, born in Iraq, but a political enemy of the late Saddam and his regime. The message, verbatim (not that you give a shit). He said:
"today is a day i have been waiting for my whole life. now satan can have alll the anal sex with him he wants.. saddam will rot in hell... rejoice!"
mft's response:
"I share your sentiments. That thug had to go. We drink to you and your family this eve good buddy."
His response:
"thanks mate! include me in your next toast" ___________
MFT's blogger commentary: Although it's impossible to prove or disprove whether Saddam is getting a good ass-raping by Beelzebub, my good friend was clearly swayed by the justice served. The substance of your retort is anticipated. Fire away, Froggie.
I'd have been fine with him putting a bullet in his head some months earlier. At least the furor saved the Allies the trouble of a trail. Both were monsters. You continue to defend at least one. That's rich. ...and your grandfather defended the other?
I know, I know, Pepe. It pains you to see a bloody dictator hanging. After all, hes used to be the boss of the Arab Socialist Baath Party. Birds of the same feather flock together, yes?

right - in the civilized world, you can't be a juror on a trial if you have a stake in the outcome...
it's also justice not served to all the victims of the crimes that he is not being tried for.

Good riddance, Saddam. That's the fate that awaits dictators like him. It's only fitting.

It's only a question, Pepe.
