Aside from the lame line that ended this piece, it sounds as though Simon Yates owes Joe a life-time of beer (at least five or six per sitting) for cutting the damned rope in the first place. How would you explain that one to a friend? "Well, you see, I didn't want to die, and you were seemingly, at that point, dead weight... eh? Right. I'll get you another..."
Joe says it's the only way they both got out alive. About not having gone down to the crevasse and hollering, I think Joe might be of a differing opinion.
Still, it's grounds for life-time free beer.
BTW, you owe me, man.
I know. However, I did leave the majority of that Mirror Pond to you and AA before I left. Still, upon our next meeting, I'll do my damndest to show up with some upper Plains ribeye. If we find a grill, I'll make it right.
