Diane Arbus

Just as current then than he is now.
The buttons read "bomb hanoi" and "god bless america".

What, Hanoi is on the primary target list again? Gee, you'da thunk Marseille would be higher than Hanoi by now.
But PP has its sources...

Arbus

Many of the freak pictures are not merely tasteless but pointless, without either psychological and aesthetic merit. Yet every so often Arbus produces a work of genius that shows human or artistic insight.

More from the artsy freakshow.

Just as current then than he is now.

Just as coherent grammatically as your thoughts are logically?

Looks like garbage to me. But one never knows with "modern art". Eg, that pic of two girls that you linked to above rates a separate wiki article, and has fetched $478,400! Grotesque.

Kubrick saw it right. It belongs in a nightmare.

Does anyone understand why people would spend a fortune for crappy photos? I think I can do better, for nothing.

Rich guys' stupid rich wives collect this junk and play one-upsmanship driving up prices.

It's all shit, but then serious guys like Pepe start believing (hey, money talkes) and so they take their shot. They start thinking this stuff is as valuable as a Velasquez, just the technical aspects of which required decades of hard apprenticeship and natural talent.

It's about like homological algebra, string theory, and mathematical logic. The shit becomes worth what the idiots in a cabal claim it's worth. Then they become bigshots because they command money. They buy nice shoes and fly around to far-flung conferences and then put on shows next to real masters.

It's all spattered shit.

Tecumseh said...

Hey, what's wrong with homological algebra?

The Arbus iconographic piece that I have posted represents the spirit of an entire generation of flag-wavers, a breed unique in the world. While you have every right to disagree with the direction of the argument, it summarizes coherently a slice of major historical events of the time. It is nearly impossible to talk of vietnam-related art and leave out this image. How can you call it "shit" ?

Oh, sorry, Pepe. A picture of a dweeb that disagrees with you. Yes. Great art indeed.
