an academy that pretends to wisdom but has historically overlooked Proust, Joyce and Nabokov. Not good enough for Planet Pepe.

Borges, also, let's not forget.

While honoring Pepean thugs like Saramago and Socialist lickspittles like Gorky and Marquez.

[Sure, give it to the thug and the lickspittles. They could scribble. But then also give it to Borges]

Good article. Sinclair Lewis hailed from Sauk Center, Minnesota, a stop I always avoided during I-94 treks between Bismarck and the Twin Cities: although I really enjoy Sinclair, there was no way I'd give that bastard the satisfaction of visiting his childhood home.

And besides: everyone already knew the Nobel Literature Prize was rigged, and has been for a long time, right?

It's silly to think that, somehow, geopolitical borders create an environment which determines good or bad literature.

Wasn't Proust long dead before there was a Nobel prize ?
Regardless, his endless jeremiads (is it 4 or 5 volumes of incessant whining?) make aa sound concise. Nobody deserves being conned into reading Proust.
Now Borges... occasionally something coherent comes out of aa's brain.
