I saw that interview on TV last evening. I don't have much problems with what Palin says (I mean, duhh -- this is not rocket science), just with the way she says it. Her noisy nasal twang or whatever it is just grates on my ears. Can't she speak English normally?
Too harsh for my ears. I prefer mellifluous, polished tones. Reagan didn't go to Harvard, but he had a great voice, and he took advantage of that (why not?).

You betcha!
So what kind of accent is that? Oregon? Alaska? Other boonies? Why not adopt a proper Bostonian accent, like everyone else?
It's a mountain state accent. Common to south/western Montana, Idaho, Wyoming, easter Washington.
The western version of the hillbillies of West Virginee. The antithesis of Kerryspeak and Obamawarble.

I must admit it would be kinda grand if Palin sounded more like Racquel Welch in Bedazzled. Or at least like Sigourney Weaver in Alien mode.
How about Lauren Bacall, in the Big Sleep? (By the way, her name should be spelled Bacalu.)
