Of course. But not more and no less than, for example, Hillary (or Bill) would have done, by nominating some cookie-cutter lefty. So I don't think this is where the real difference is--just the standard shit taco we were resigned to.

Yeah, but good ole Jerry was in a very weak position after Watergate. And, of course, J-P started as a mavericky moderate, and then moved steadily left from there, once on the Supreme Court. Sort of like Souter, but even more. Happened to a couple of Reagan appointees, too -- O'Connor and Kennedy -- but they just moved from center-right to center, or slightly center-left. Never seen a lefty appointee move ever so slightly to the right, though. Never happens.
