Rioters attacked the offices of the United Nations and foreign aid agencies, looting computers, books, desks and even shoes. They also set fire to numerous police check posts across Kabul, and as the mobs continued to run amok in mid-afternoon, a pall of smoke hung over some districts of the capital.

I wonder how you explain the fact that few seem to understand all the good that america is trying to spread around the world.
The violence directed at americans from the general public both in Iraq & Afghanistan (not to mention the rest of the world) contrasts with the contention that americans are just there to spread peace and democracy.
Are people confused and if so, why?

Good question -- and, I don't have a satisfactory answer. But, perhaps, it's because most people feel the urge to blame the vicissitudes of life on someone (a natural instinct, after all). America, the rich, the powerful, is a convenient scapegoat...
