So the Post's position is that the US should go to bat for a corrupt guy. I see Pepe's coherence. We are supposed to kowtow to Thaksin and Chirac because (at one point) they were elected legally.
Hitler won his election fair and square too.
Pepe and democracy. I wonder what that would mean.

The administration has likewise embraced autocratic leaders in such disparate places as Azerbaijan and Ethiopia while generally tempering criticism of anti-democratic policies in Russia and China. Even in the Middle East, Bush has treaded lightly in nudging allies such as Egypt and Saudi Arabia to reform.
or not go to bat for corrupt guys. The point is that the promotion of democracy is just a sound bite.
