Some years ago the Atlantic (or maybe Harper's) ran a piece about how the EU would turn Europe (or Eurasia) into a sort of United European States. My question: could one singular Identity unify all of Europa? Eastern Europe had a far different experience than Western Europe — both with the Roman Empire, more currently with Moscow Communism.
From my perspective as an economic simpleton, I'd a thunk that being inside that market, giving much freer flow to goods and capital, would be very likely to boost Romania. At the same time, being an unVersaillian social simpleton, I'd a thunk the preening oversight of the Belgio-Franks would be enough to guarantee wrack and ruin....My simplicities are not consistent, are even in dialectical contradiction. Thus, by achieving an intellectually fruitless incoherence, I've become complex, even sophisticated. When to I get my invite to Versaille?

Hmmmm... I guess it's good news, but when I think of those Euro-bureaucrats, I shudder.
By the way, how about this report? I wonder what Steyn would make of it...

Any thoughts about Romania entering it AI?

At the rate Dubya is expanding the Federal government, I don't even think you'll have to cross the Atlantic AA.
