No. This is shrewd political analysis. Shrewder than Villelin and Chirac's analysis saying that they could buy off the left with some faux pacifism in order to then make economic reforms.
on the other hand, sarko is philosophically much closer to the majority of you bloggers than villepin. he has adopted the tough talking, no-nonsense don't-fuck-with-me-or-else, good vs evil, populist demeanor of the less enlightened in your politicians. Add a zest of "rah-rah-rah", "france is number 1" to the existing mix and he'll be a perfectly translated clone.
Sarko does sound about as good as one can expect from the French (the fact that he has Eastern European roots must help.) Whether he can get elected -- let alone get elected and really turn things around -- is rather doubtful to me. My hunch is that, after a dose of faux-jeton Socialism under Chirac, they pine after the real McCoy. When in a hole, keep diggin', that's the spirit!
Be that as it may, it is sweet to see the back-stabbing, grand-standing Vile Pine slowly, oh so slowly, twist in the wind.
Great. Much better than a closet quisling to the muslim majority held hostage by a bunch of students wanting to keep the muslims exactly where they are.
Bring on the Sarcoma. He's better than that socialist broad Royal (which will likely win all the marbles with the votes of those that have lost theirs).
Also, Vilepine is such a completely absurd man with his poetry books and busts of Napoleon, that he needs to be put to pasture. No serious country could tolerate a living caricature of frenchness than that. Not even France.

Wow! Is this a zeugma?

Double wow! Is the DPA back at JH (due to return of winter)? You seem on a roll with your French analysis, JJ.
since you are on the topic of style, i am unsure that villepin's pompous demeanor is worse than w's inability to articulate a coherent unscripted sentence. d'un bouffon, l'autre.
Could be that Americans also pine after a dose of Liberalism, after a stretch of Conservatism. Will it be 1976 all over again, with Jimmah back? We managed to survive then (barely) for four long years -- yes, JJ is right, this was the worst President, at least of the 20th century. But at least 1976 also saw a spirited primary campaign by Ronnie, who set the basis for his eventual winning in 1980, and our collective comeback. Right now, I don't see any Ronnie waiting in the wings...
i wouldn't get too worried - it's not like the dems have a decent candidate in the wings either. i'd say the odds are they'll fuck this one up like they did the last: they have neither the political machinery nor anyone with charisma, let alone a platform. at least y'all have the looney from Az.
I was thinking about that, too, so that's why I was not sure. It sounded borderline zeugma to me: collecting marbles and losing your marbles refers to slightly different things, no? We need more input on that...

Reading is fundamental, AI.

y'all about to become unconditional francophiles.

and since we're on the topic of a looser twirling in the wind

You think Jimmah had charisma?
AI: Pacific Coast IPA is on. Had a few too many last night. Worth drinking but it's no DPA.
I am not sure if what I wrote is a zeugma. wouldn't the word 'marbles' need to be interpreted differently in each of its appearances?
