The Rise of Soccer in the American West

Beckham goes from Madrid to L.A. Some time ago, perhaps within the last year, I said something to AA that essentially predicted American ascendency in the world of soccer. This may prove to be one of those significant points.

Or maybe LA is just an old elephants cemetery? Time will tell...

Even if Beckham is on the descent, I still predict American dominance in soccer at the world stage taking place within this next decade.

Hmmmmm.... OK, everything is possible, but what are the odds?

Here's a prediction: America will win the World Cup in 8 years (at least I think it's every four years, right? 2010, then 2014?). If I'm on with my numbers, America will have the World Cup in 2014.

I'm merely thinking with the Invisible Hand. We can agree that, while fun to watch and play, soccer is a poor man's sport (much like American baseball in the late-19th century). There's too much monetary gain, and too many media outlets for Football giants the world over to ignore. They start in the poor countries, and eventually they'll sign for the Big Money in America. That's what happened (and is still happening) with, for example, Puerto Ricans and baseball (some time ago Pepe said he loathed American baseball which, for some reason, made me like it that much more).
