George Will explains the facts of life to Herr Rot

Slowly. Very slowly: America, its luck exhausted, at last has a president from the academic culture, that grating blend of knowingness and unrealism. But the reaction against this must somewhat please him. That reaction is populism, a celebration of intellectual ordinariness. This is not a stance that will strengthen the Republican Party, which recently has become ruinously weak among highly educated whites. Besides, full-throated populism has not won a national election in 178 years, since Andrew Jackson was reelected in 1832.

By 1980, ordinariness in high office had lost its allure.

Reagan wasn't a populist? What planet is Will on?

First comment: Reagan was a populist, inter alia. But he could do other things , too -- like walk and chew gum at the same time, which Gerald Ford couldn't. There is nothing a priori wrong with populism, unless it's the of a politico (if you dig my Latin), in which case it becomes awfully limiting, especially when talking about someone who wants to be POTUS. As George Will makes the case, that doesn't fly with most Americans, at east since Andy Jackson, bless his heart (I wish I had more portraits of him in my wally).

Third comment: that's from that interview that I posted, but you could not be bothered to listen to, since it was too long for your attention span.

Yes, from your posting, but you pushed the socialist meme which has been obvious to everyone since Obama's first speech. Callin him a fruit is new.

Not. Perhaps to you, but you are notoriously fast asleep at the wheel.
