Humility and critical analysis has never been a strong point of the annointed: "We did not see any increased activation of the parts of the brain normally engaged during reasoning," said Drew Westen, director of clinical psychology at Emory University. "What we saw instead was a network of emotion circuits lighting up, including circuits hypothesized to be involved in regulating emotion, and circuits known to be involved in resolving conflicts."

Cool, I never knew I had a dorsolateral prefrontal cortex. Never mind that I could ignore it :)
Am I alone in not quite getting what was meant by the Tom Hanks bit?
What would we do without studies? This particular one seems to have some validity to it -- people do indeed tend to filter information through a set of ideological lenses. Present company excluded, of course.
As for the Tom Hanks hanky-panky, I'm at a loss. What does he have to do with anything? Just being there?
Another example from the Hillary Clinton letter I got today (I think the Dems got my name from Harper's). The letter begins,
"If there has ever been a time in America's history that called for strong leadership, long-range vision, and the courage to confront our most serious problems, that time is now.
Sadly, the Republican Party does not agree.
What George W. Bush and the Republican Congress offer are irresponsible, short-sighted policies and evasion of responsibility."
SEE!?! AA, AI, and JJ don't have long-range vision. Hillary said so!
More seriously, or back to reality: I don't know what the journalist was getting at with Tom Hanks either other than a sloppy ending to an otherwise good story, but I recollect that Hanks did lobby for one of the candidates at some point.
My visios gets blurred by about this time of the evening. Best wishes and drink up!
Displacing the caffeine with just the right amount of wheat beer as I type jj. Salute to you too, and to dancing around the May pole.
