US President George Bush is due to address the 192-nation assembly on Tuesday, where he is expected to further outline his vision for fostering democracy in the Middle East

y'see, we bomb iraq. the iraqis, they shower our soldiers with flowers and then democracy, it spreads!

That's going to be a tough one: W may have a vision for democracy (although it somewhat flies in the face of his lack of support for human rights abroad and democratic institutions at home), but most of his actions are encouraging the hard-liners.

is it the case that, just like with christmas gifts, it's only the intention that counts ?

Chirac's counterproposal: We make the Middle East safe for democracy by allying ourselves with Iran and supporting Iran at the UN.
We will be showered with flowers by al Qaeda and their Algerian friends.

Calling Chirac a pussy? C'mon, JJ, you're slippin' -- that's like saying the sky is blue. Surely you coulda find something more pungent to say, carrying some meaning. Cheese-eating surrender monkey, perhaps? Naahhh, too much of a cliché by now. We need something more trenchant, plus mordant. Some oomph! Any fresh ideas?
