Norway isn't in NATO so they should have dealt with the little Husseins themselves. Fuck 'em.

What does this have to do with being in NATO or not? In my book, if pirates attack a ship, and you have the wherewithal to defend the ship by force of arms, just do it. Is this rocket science, or something? Really, I don't get it. Has the whole world gone full Pepe nuts?

No, you have. Why should we spend money defending others?

Return to convoys, large groups of cargo ships escorted by destroyers, and also dust off the Letters of Marque:

The issue of Marque and Reprisal was raised before Congress after the September 11, 2001 attacks, and again on July 21, 2007 by congressman Ron Paul. The attacks were defined as acts of "air piracy," and the Marque and Reprisal Act of 2001 was introduced, which would have granted the president the authority to use Letters of Marque and Reprisal against the specific terrorists, instead of warring against a foreign state. The terrorists were compared to pirates in that they are difficult to fight by traditional military means. Congressman Paul also advocated the use of letters of marque to address the issue of Somali pirates operating in the Gulf of Aden on April 15, 2009.Or at least tell insurance companies that it is in fact okay for American sailors to pack heat on their ships. Or is it illegal for American sailors aboard their cargo ships to pack heat in the first place?

Mr Rot is going full PP, all right. Just in case this is a temporary aberration, due to too much ouzo (and/or jabbering on the brain-fryer): read again the title of the post, and the linked-to article, Mr Rot. (Reading is essential.) We're talking the Portuguese Navy here (yes, amazingly, they do have one), and the Norwegian Navy, and even, a la rigueur, the French Navy (still have a vestigial force left after they scuttled at Toulon in 1940 what was left after Trafalgar). But I'm digressing. Ah, you see, Mr Rot. it's not just us who are supposed to kill dead pirates attacking ships, instead of twiddling our thumbs, in Pepean fashion. Stop being so Americano-centered, willya? Think globally, act locally. Just get that damn Magnum 44 and blast away the next time those grappling hooks clamber aboard ship. Capeesh?

MFT: I like your proposal. Had not heard of those letters of marque in recent times, but they make a ton of sense to me.

Mr roT said...

Sorry, Americano-centered it will be. We carried the Europeans around for 50 years and all we got out of it is Obama.

Fuck everyone. I'm going nativist.

I am not with rot on this. matter of fact, i think the us should spend a lot more helping others and a lot less bombing them.

I'm somewhere in the middle between the nativist/isolationist position that Mr Rot adopts here and the standard pinko position that Pepe adopts like a clockwork orange, always: I think we should help others, by bombing them.

He's not crazy -- he just goes off on a tangent now and then (a normal course of action for a particle traveling along a path). But after a while, he pulls himself back up by his bootstraps, and he's off and running. Dontcha worry.

The .44 mag comes highly recommended. I hear S&W makes a friggin' .50 magnum, too. Let me see if I can find the sucker...
