Sky News has it at 6.7 on Richter scale. Quite significant. Can bring down a house or even a building, if poorly made.

Once it gets above 7 it gets really shaky. It also matters what the soil is -- if it's mushy, like in Mexico City, then it's worse than rocky stuff, like in Manhattan. How is Rome in that respect? I know Pisa is quite soft, that's why the tower leans.

Rome is on very fertile land. I would guess it's mushy rather than stony.

Better evidence is that a lot of old buildings from classical antiquity are down because of earthquakes there.

That and lime-burners, but we need not restart that thread, need we?
