When da GOP returned to power
.. 20 years after a long hiatus, Ike and Tricky Dick were on the ticket. The latter got into some kind of trouble, and so got ready to make a speech. Nixon inquired if the general would be in a position to make a decision on Nixon's fate immediately after the broadcast, and when Eisenhower prevaricated, Senator Nixon angrily retorted, "General, there comes a time in matters like this when you've either got to shit or get off the pot." Words of wisdom, worth remembering.

Nixon was full of more than just shit. He was also full of toilet humor that makes Pepe tear up with joy.
The extremes...
Not a very refined man, I agree. But he had his moments. Going after Alger Hiss was one of those -- the pinkos never, ever forgave him for exposing their commie spy, that's why they always hated him, even when his policies were quite nanny-statist.
Being right is the worst thing you can do.
You got it. It's a sad truth. Did the Romans have a proverb on that?
