But yes, Peters knows very well what he's talking about. I read his books back in the 80s and 90s, and clearly he was talking from direct experience with the Caucasus. In the long run (especially if you think of their falling natality), the Russians are fokked (how do you say that in Russian?) But in the short run, I would not misunderestimate the bear. Especially when wounded.

I imagine that the Russians are well capable of making a mess over there.
