Planet Rot completely disoriented

Democrats privately charged Saturday that Graham was trying to scuttle immigration reform in order to protect his close friend, Sen. John McCain, R-Arizona, from having to deal with a sticky issue in advance of his tough August GOP primary battle in Arizona to keep his Senate seat. McCain has previously pushed for comprehensive immigration reform but has been recently talking about securing America's borders first, a position that puts the senator more in line with his conservative primary opponent, former Rep. J.D. Hayworth.

Hmmm... IT'S ALL JD'S FAULT!!!!

Whackjobs like Hayworth will give the Democrats a chance to saddle us with another 4 years of Barack and Nancy.

Yeah, yeah, yeah. Sounds like a broken record. Care to explain exactly why you consider Hayworth (a legitimate contender for the GOP Senate nomination, from what I can tell), a "whackjob"? Sounds like a slime job to me..

I would tell you why I consider him a whackjob! JD lost his seat when in Congress to a democrat, we need not see that occur again (especially over immoral relationships) JD was voted the dumbest member in Congress- that was by his peers, he is not admired b/c he is a blowhard and a big spender (earmarks) So, from what I can tell, and from what my memory reminds me of, there is not a chance I would vote for JD, and I am not alone! McCain is the best candidate by far!!

Look, I really don't know much about JD, except that he's challenging McCain, and keeping his feet to the fire, which I think is good, in and of itself. Part of the problem in Congress is that we have all these Congressmen and Senators who have been serving for 30-40 years, and have long ago lost touch with the people they are supposed to represent. I don't think the Constitution envisioned such Senators-for-Life, and certainly not Representatives-for-Life.

Besides those general principles, my beef with McCain has been the way he has acted and voted for the past decade. I liked him a lot in the early 1980s, when he was part of the "Reagan revolution". But he lost his way after the Keating Five scandal, and certainly after he lost in the primaries to George Bush in 2000. His campaign in 2008 was extremely poor, and we are now facing the consequences. This business about earmarks, although sure (duhhh_.) they should not be there in the budget, is really a pittance compared to the big-ticket items, like the mammoth "stimulus" bill, or the health bill. McCain is getting too old and tired -- and has lost so much credibility after all his mavericky stances over the past decade -- to do a serious job in the Senate. We need new blood.

So OK, maybe JD is not the ideal counter-candidate, I don't know enough to judge. But then, why isn't someone else rising to the challenge?

Fine, Tecs. McCain is not ideal. But there's something about respect for a guy like that and there's also the topic from the other thread.

JD is pushing things so far to the right that for sure there will be a backlash when the winds change. It is just never wise to vote for the extremes because, as you know, Carter gave us Reagan, W gave us Obama.

Some of the putative extremism is trumped up by the media when it's on the right, so there is where one must be more careful.

In Az, they're not being careful and they're working for the Dems nationwide.

This is also why I detest Krikorian and McCarthy, particularly, at NRO. They're 24/7 on seethe setting and never seem to question their own assumptions and views.

They might as well be Democrats for all the good they're doing the Right.

Think of them as being the facile teachers among your colleagues that simply reinforce students' perceptions without challenging them.

They're useless.
