Every time this happens, Darwin cries.

So why the man jump in the water? Did he want to cool off? Rather amazing how he managed to survive, both the plunge, and the freezing water. What does Darwin say?

"Fluctuation"?

The guy is obviously very very fittest. Darwin claps his hand, "Hurrah".

Not in the brain dept.

What's more important for the survival of the species? Brains or brawn?

Ability to plummet to your Doom over Niagara and yet drink beer that night is neither brain, nor brawn, nor even Gott red derring. It's Fitness of the purest Darwin.
As for the non plummeteers, it might also not be either brain or brawn. It could be those who follow the first principle of Pepeanism: "He who runs away lives to run away another day"

Hmmm... OK, OK, but I'm still trying to discern some hidden meaning from this strange act. There is a certain panache in this derring-do. Also, what does it really say about Darwin's theory that the fittest survive? If you just put it that way, it's merely a tautology. Did Darwin mean more to it than that?

The meaning (as to why they do it) is about as elusive as this.
