Planet Pepe conflicted: hit on the same day by columnists Frank Rich, Thomas Friedman and Maureen Dowd—and in the paper's lead editorial. Their critique punctuated a weekend that started with a widely circulated blog post by Paul Krugman that said the president’s yet to be announced bank rescue plan would almost certainly fail.
Ah, but not Pepe, not Pepe. He's up there, manning the ramparts against the vast hordes of crazed right wing nuts, cheering and pushing The One to ever greater deeds. The Radiant Future is just around the corner, comrades.
“Summers is so tone-deaf that he makes Geithner seem like Bobby Kennedy," Rich wrote. This is funny. But then again, where does this put Pepe on the tone-deaf scale?
Don't worry, be happy says Pepe: But a White House adviser dismissed the negative assessments, saying she is "incredibly confident" that the president's policies will "do the job" for the economy.
