this is interesting. it seems that if one is to organize an event of international apppeal, it shouldn't conflict with the sensitivities of the participants in a major way. given that muslims aren't supposed to eat during ramadan, i don't see how they can be expected to compete.

Are they competing? In which filed? Also, by the way, how come we never heard this kind of crap since Pierre de Coubertin re-invented the Olympics more than 100 years ago? Could it be that this has something to do with that mythical conflict, the WOT? Nahhhh, says Pepe.

does it matter at this point - the issue is whether you want to preclude them from competing.

if you are right, it just goes to prove again how disruptive dubbyah's silly little "wot" is.

The olympics antedate Islam. Does anyone know if they were held during a specific time of year?

Also: Reverend Pepe, do you fast?

I don't. It's stupid. That's what a Lebanese friend told me too. He dislikes Bush, but dislikes religious voodoo even more.

the ramadan is on a lunar calendar: its dates change every year.

Also: Reverend Pepe, do you fast?

no. but my wife says i should. or a least cut down on the cherry garcia.

Stupidity is ubiquitous in religious practice: that is besides the point.

Pepe, I'm referring to when the Olympics were held, at any one time of year. Unless someone else has better dates, I believe they started about the latter part of the 8th century BCE, and lasted until about the 4th century AD (notice how I used the secular and Christian dating system in one swoop of a sentence).

Of course, the Committee could change when the Olympics were held, but the final decision as to when to hold the games should mostly be left to the host country (if I was in someone else's house, I'd eat when food was placed before me; I'd hope they would take my gracious hospitality the same way).

Stupidity is ubiquitous in religious practice: that is besides the point.

Not when you're so rabid about exposing only the stupidity of the various manifestations of Christianity -- and I agree, there are alot.

Again, that's a hell of a worldview you got goin' there. At least we always know where you're coming from in that it rests primarily on a mono-hatred/resentment ethos, that being anti-Dubya. ...it's good to be scholarly and fair about things, Pepe. Nice work.

And can you blame me ?

It's such a boring topic, Pepe. It's similar to Neo-Cons/Repubs/Conservatives who manage to revolve their entire lives around hating Clinton, or whoever.

To that I give a resounding, "BooOOOOooooring!!!"

ok - don't jump in, then.

Who gives a shit about the Olympics? Not me. Do the muslims? Have they modified the biathalon so you blow yourself up if when you run out of ammo?
