I've got some Carlyle on the 19th century historiography shelf, but the table of contents in front of me doesn't say anything about the work you linked to. The wiki link reads as though Carlyle was attempting some of what might be categorized as historical fiction. Looks interesting for sure.

I heard of the title, but the title put me off reading it. As Tristram Shandy did for a long time.
Yeah yeah, yeah, if its stupid to judge a book by its cover its even more stupid to judge it by a subset of its title.
Sounds pretty damn interesting.

Yes. Unlike you, I read Sterne in college. I think the pinkos that took over at UC back in the '40s when you were there had not yet infiltrated Texas. Still, in Texas we never heard of Carlyle, thinking it instead a fancy homo hotel in New York where Bobby Short would play music every night.
