This is what the prime minister meant by his campaign promise to make Prodi-gious efforts to stop terrorism in its tracks? Unlike his fellow Hungarian Redorista, the Italian is a man of his word. Impressive.
In some fairness, they did reverse the acquittals of a bunch of moroccans that were recruiting in Milan for Iraq 'duty'. They are in the big house now and will stay there for a while because the retrial was moved to saner-than-Milan Brescia. Baraldini was in the pokey here in the US for helping the Black Panthers plan murders and heists. She appealed for a transfer to serve her term in Italy because she has cancer and wants to be able to visit Mamma. For some reason, if in Europe you have a disease, you get out of the slammer. So the commies have been whining for the evil capitalisti to send her to Italy to serve out her time. From the beginning the Right said that this would just lead to her release, contrary to agreement with the US, and they have been proven right. Prejudice is not bad if it's right, is it?
Ok, so some muslothugs had their acquittals reversed? Claro, law Italiano is not law Americano. Or was the notion of Double Jeopardy extant and was simply set aside for overriding reasons of national security? I missed the part where Sylvia was dying of cancer.....given that, there is some ground for humanitarian parole. Of course, if she has a "miracle cure" and is next month smooching with Prodi and Pepe at some Roman celebration of Oriana's demise, we'll know whose hood has been winked.
In Italy the defense and the prosecution can appeal to a higher court. The minister of justice under Berlu pushed to have the venue changed to Brescia where clearer heads ruled the day. This hasn't got to the supreme court but I have not heard that al Qaeda in Milan is trying for that.
The first acquittal caused such an uproar that two magistrates in the Milan parquet became household names. I don't think this those guys are getting out. Baraldini, though, is out. But not dangerous, likely.

So Prodi's contribution is that he didn't take back Berlu's effort? Any question of his supporting it should the Supreme Court get called in?
