"So called"
That's how the Beeb insists on calling the WOT. But then, if it's a fiction of the imagination of Bush & Co, how come more than half the Brits think we're losing this imaginary war (dixit Beeb), 5 years after it started? No doubt, mass hallucibation, due to subliminal messages beamed out by Karl Rove?

I think it would help if the administration would take the trouble to spell out what the "wot" actually is and what victory would consist of.
I do not need to point out to you that the answer to that has been a moving target all along and that democracy spreading throughout the middle east faster than a case of the clap on clergypeople is not even a goal the administration dreams of any longer.
With the iraqi adventure spiraling towards the making of a 3-way fractured state as the only alternative to civil war, with an independent North, a Southern shiite theocracy, and a frustrated Sunni population in the middle, victory is going to consist of little more than coming up with a cooked-up pretense for a face-saving exit.
In the end, it'll all be a matter of how victory will be defined the day that the US pulls out.
How about avoiding a repeat of 1453? I'd take that as a victory of sorts. Too much to ask?
Who we supposed to lose Constantinople to, AI? The Turk?
Since the war is "on terror", one reasonable criterion for victory would be a drastic reduction in terrorist vocation as a result of the iraqi invasion.
Ok, I'll take a modest reduction.
ai - do you think the us is winning, and if so according to what criterion/a ?
Pepe: No, I don't think we're winning -- right now it's more-or-less a draw, we're winning some, we're losing some.
JJ: Constantinople was lost for good in 1453, that's not the point. The point is not to lose another major city -- like almost happened with Vienna in 1683. You gotta take the long view, man.

By what measure are you winning (I have figured out the koosing part) ?
