Blue-stocking'ed ladies were reported as hanging around Chekhov, though he ended up marrying a rather — ahem — humble looking actress (at least as I remember, without double-checking).

Chekhov would be more pissed with the actors and actresses sighing at the wrong moment, or not inflecting their voice as he originally intended it.
