whoa dude: that's so like, deep...

- Non human-centeredness - humans do not have a privileged position at the expense of all the other life forms on this one Earth that we share.

Did anyone else get the deep ecology memo?

Here we have the "logical" extension of this tripe. Before long we will have integrated all the way to equal rights for nematodes and will have to brush the ground in front of us so as not to harm an insect.

It's a good thing some idiots are concentrating on this so that they don't get in the way of real issues, though.

Here's another famous wacko del genere. Link. There's plenty of lovely filth there.

This reminds me of a Colonial Enlightenment figure: he may have been joking a bit when he said it, but old Ben Franklin said he hoisted the vegetarian flag for a time... until, of course, he saw smaller fish come out of the belly of the larger fish that were being gutted. If the larger fish could eat smaller fish, Franklin discarded previous reservations about eating cod (that in addition to him being really hungry).

Right. We're animals. Some animals kill just for fun, even. Orcas skin seals alive, throwing them 100 yards in the process. Looks like a hell of a lot of fun. For the orca.
